Term 1 Week 7 | 2025

Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is an important day in the life of the Church as it prepares us for Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter. Traditionally, Christians would use all the butter, eggs and milk in their house, and make pancakes before they needed to fast for the Lenten season. Luckily for us we still observe this tradition today. Kildare College commemorated the day by making and selling delicious pancakes for all students to enjoy. All proceeds were donated to Caritas Australia – Project Compassion.

Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday morning, we marked the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday Liturgies held in Pastoral Care classes. Gathering in small groups created a unique and sacred atmosphere, allowing students and staff to reflect deeply on their actions, choices, and their impact on others. As a Catholic College Community, we received ashes on our foreheads—a visible sign of our desire for forgiveness and our commitment to personal growth and transformation. During Lent, Christians traditionally dedicate more time to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, embracing this season as an opportunity for reflection and spiritual renewal.

Year 7 Cultivating Connections Camps: Fun, Friendship and Funny Moments!
After three days of fun adventures and endless energy, our Year 7 students have returned from Victor Harbor with big smiles, unforgettable memories, and a new sense of belonging and connection! With a mix of exciting activities, teamwork challenges, and plenty of laughs, our Year 7 Camps were an incredible experience for everyone involved.

Action-Packed Adventures!
Our students threw themselves into every activity, showing enthusiasm, resilience, and a great sense of adventure. Here’s a glimpse of what they got up to:

  • Beach Games – From sandcastle competitions to team challenges, the students had a blast at the beach.
  • Survivor Challenge – Putting their problem-solving and teamwork to the test, students competed in this ultimate survival-style game, proving they could tackle any challenge thrown their way!
  • Flying Kiwi – One of the biggest highlights! Students were harnessed up and launched into the air by their teammates, experiencing the thrill of ‘flying’ while learning the importance of trust and teamwork.
  • Amazing Race – Racing against the clock, teams navigated their way through fun challenges that tested their speed, strategy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Water Obstacle Course – Things got messy (and very wet!) as students tackled a series of fun, slippery, and exciting water challenges. It was all about teamwork and determination!
  • Beyond Limits Relay – Pushing themselves to their limits, students worked together in this endurance-based relay, encouraging each other and proving that anything is possible with the right mindset.

New Friendships and Stronger Connections
Beyond the exciting activities, one of the most special parts of our Year 7 Camps was seeing new friendships form, as existing bonds were consolidated. Whether it was working as a team in challenges, sharing stories around mealtimes, dancing during our Disco Night or simply laughing together in the cabins, students had the opportunity to connect in ways that are not always possible in the classroom.

For many, Year 7 Camp offered them a chance to step outside their usual friendship groups and get to know new people, as well as some of their “big sister” peers in Year 11. By the end of the camps, it was clear that our Year 7 cohort had grown closer as a whole, building a supportive and inclusive community that will continue throughout the year.

A Camp to Remember
The Year 7 students showed incredible spirit, kindness, and teamwork. Whether they were cheering on their friends, stepping outside their comfort zones, or simply enjoying time together, they made the most of every moment.

A massive thank you to our Year 11 Peer Support Leaders for their encouragement and guidance, and to our wonderful staff team, who embraced the camps and ensured everything ran smoothly.

With perfect beachside weather, engaging activities, and a fantastic group of students and staff, both of our Year 7 Cultivating Connections Camps were a huge success. Here’s to an exciting year ahead – full of the same passion, enthusiasm, teamwork, and unstoppable and vibrant Year 7 spirit!

The International Women’s Day (IWD) theme, Accelerate Action, resonates deeply with the mission of girls’ schools, affirming our commitment to empowering young women. This year’s theme calls for urgency and momentum in addressing the barriers that women face. It was also an opportunity for our students to celebrate the inspiring women in their own lives, and the world.

To mark the occasion, all Pastoral Care classes engaged with a collaborative PowerPoint presentation by our Year 12 and Living Justice | Living Peace Student Leaders and were provided purple ribbons to wear for the day. At lunchtime, students were encouraged to contribute to our Affirmation Wall, while enjoying music that replaced the usual school bells, reflecting the day’s theme.

Our Year 12 Student Leaders also attended the Tea Tree Gully IWD event, where Australian author Fiona McIntosh shared her inspiring journey, and encouraged our young women to pursue their passions with courage and determination.

By fostering discussions around equality, resilience, and leadership, IWD helps young women build confidence, challenge stereotypes, and envision themselves as changemakers in the world. It also strengthens the sense of unity within our school community, connecting us to the global movement for gender equity
