Book Week is always a highlight of Term 3 at Kildare College. The Resource Centre this year was transformed into a castle of magic and fantasy creatures, tying into the “Reading is Magic” CBCA 2024 Theme. Students were greeted by a knight, ogre and Pegasus unicorn.
At lunch times, students were able to make Cup Bobble Heads of unicorns and dragons, and have a go at creating a Roaring Peg Dragon. Students also worked their way around the Resource Centre searching for all the hidden wizards amongst the bookshelves.
The week ended with a lunch time Costume Parade where staff and students showed off their amazing individual and group character costume creations. The judges had a hard task but chose Zali T, dressed as Enola Holmes as most recognisable book character; best group costume went to Year 12 students, Amelia K, Jada R, Sienna C and Makayla F representing the book “Counting with M&Ms”. It was then up to the students to voice the loudest cheer for the best dressed staff member, a hotly contested title. This year it was a group of teachers that won the coveted prize dressed as Winnie the Pooh and friends – Mrs Kelly, Mr Wockel, Ms Gallina, Ms Stichel, Ms Neeb and Ms Fairweather.
Creative Industries Week at Kildare College highlights our students’ diverse talents and growing enthusiasm for the arts. Each day focused on a different creative discipline, offering hands-on experiences that inspire and challenge.
Monday began with Visual Art, where students crafted ceramic fridge magnets, blending functionality with personal expression. Tuesday saw students create intricate macrame jewellery, combining traditional knotting techniques with modern design. Wednesday brought woodworking into focus, as students made propagation stands, learning the value of precision and craftsmanship. On Thursday, Media students explored the cutting-edge world of digital art with Photoshop AI, pushing the boundaries of creativity through technology. Finally, on Friday, Photography students delved into Polaroid photography, discovering the charm of instant art.
Creative Industries are essential for fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression. The increasing participation in these subjects at Kildare College is a testament to their importance. We are proud to feature Franceska, a Year 7 student, as the creator of the poster art for this week.
Creative Industries Week reflects the vibrant, dynamic environment we’re nurturing at Kildare, inspiring students to discover and unleash their creative potential.
On Friday afternoon, Kildare hosted a memorable Father’s Day Barbecue and Activities afternoon in the gym, marking a delightful departure from our traditional Father’s Day breakfast. The event saw the arrival of over 150 dads, grandads, and male caregivers, all eager to spend time with their daughters and other families in our community.
After being welcomed by our Principal, Tina Neate, everyone had the chance to mingle with other families and their daughters and enjoy something to eat and drink. The gym was set up with many options for everyone to choose from and provided opportunities to suit all skill levels. The competitive games were the highlight of the afternoon, with some serious contenders vying for the top spot.
We hope the Kildare drink holder, a memento of the day, will be useful for years to come. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success, turning it into yet another wonderful opportunity for dads, grandads, and male caregivers to connect with our students and each other.
