Term 3 Week 6 | 2025

Justice – Making the needs of the vulnerable paramount was the focus for our Year 10 Retreat, where students brought this Core Value to life through their support of Catherine House, a beacon of hope for women in crisis.

We welcomed Molly from Catherine House, whose inspiring presentation encouraged students to think deeply, reminding them that even the smallest act of kindness can transform lives, especially those who are most vulnerable. Molly’s words challenged them to reflect on their perspectives and their role in caring for others.

Then came the energy boost and teamwork, with Dede and Anika from Elev8fit Training who led a fun and dynamic bootcamp session. Laughter, encouragement, and collaboration filled the space as students thrived in the challenges and bonded as a group.

In the afternoon, students put their compassion into action. A Bake Sale bursting with homemade treats raised an impressive $284.60 for Catherine House, while care packages were thoughtfully created from generous donations. Each was paired with Affirmation Cards and a St Brigid’s Cross, powerful symbols of hope and healing.

The Retreat was a meaningful reminder of the strength of community and the change we can create when we act with justice and compassion.

The creativity of the Kildare College community was on full display last week to celebrate Book Week. The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) theme of ‘Book an Adventure’ allowed us to travel to the many worlds and environments of fiction books, from gritty dystopian cities to sun-soaked islands to deep space and beyond.

Students had the opportunity to journey to a range of destinations through borrowing wrapped books with unknown settings. Their destination was determined by spinning a compass to point them in the direction they will journey.

The highlight of the week is always the Book Character Costume Parade. The Dance Studio was filled with loud applause and appreciation for the amazing and creative costumes both students and staff were wearing. After much debate the judges awarded our three prizes:

  • Best Solo Costume – Anne-Marie G for the character Shinobo Kocho from ‘Demonslayer’.
  • Best Group Costume – Trinity V and Avia K for their creepily accurate depiction of characters from ‘It’.
  • Best Staff Costume – Ms Fairweather, Mr Wockel, Ms Gallina, Ms Neeb, Mrs Wall and an in-spirit appearance by Ms Rossi as Mike TV from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

Well done to all our parade participants and winners! It was fantastic to see so many wonderful costumes to brighten up the College and celebrate Book Week.

Our College community came together for an early Father’s Day celebration filled with laughter, connection, and friendly competition. The event featured a Barbecue and Activities Afternoon, where students and their father figures enjoyed quality time together in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.

The highlight of the afternoon was the Dad vs Daughter games, which brought out friendly yet competitive rivalry between the competitors. It was fantastic to see so many families engaging in the afternoon.

The aroma of BBQ sausages, onions and veggie patties filled the air as everyone gathered to share a snack and enjoy each other’s company. The turnout was fantastic with many families attending, and the grounds were buzzing with energy and laughter.

This celebration was a beautiful reminder of the importance of family, togetherness, and appreciation. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the afternoon so special.

As Father’s Day approaches, we extend our warmest wishes to all the dads, grandfathers, uncles, and father figures in our community. May your Father’s Day be blessed. We also take a moment to acknowledge those for whom Father’s Day may bring mixed emotions, those who have lost their fathers, those who are separated from them, and those who carry their memories in their hearts. May this day be one of peace, reflection, and love, and may you feel the support of the Kildare College community around you.
