The first of our three Artist in Residence days for 2025 was an exciting and inspiring experience for students. We were honoured to welcome Caitlyn Davies-Plummer, a proud Barkindji woman and artist and the creative force behind Dustin-Koa Art. Caitlyn’s practice explores story telling through expressive mark-making, abstraction, and mixed media, with deep roots in culture, identity, and connection to Country.
Throughout the day, students from a range of year levels participated in immersive workshops led by Caitlyn. She generously shared her techniques and creative process, encouraging students to experiment, express their personal stories, and engage in meaningful reflection through art. The studio spaces were alive with curiosity, and collaboration as students explored artistic approaches and story telling through symbolism.
This day was the beginning of a rich and important journey. Over the course of the residency, students will continue to work with Caitlyn to create two collaborative artworks that will be displayed, celebrating student voice, cultural awareness, and the power of creative expression.
We look forward to welcoming Caitlyn back later in the year as the residency continues. Her presence has already had a profound impact, inspiring students to think deeply, create boldly, and connect authentically through art.

Our Year 7 students focused on sustainability through Use-It-Up recipes, encouraging minimal waste and creative thinking in the kitchen. They designed their own recipe cards and collaborated in teams to bring their ideas to life.
A hands-on pizza incursion, had the Year 8 students engaging into the art of dough-making and the fermentation process. With a mystery ingredient in hand, they each crafted a unique pizza. They also focused on healthy eating, creating nutritious menu items tailored to real-life case studies.
In Year 9, students explored the world of pasta, in particular, pairing sauces with handmade pasta shapes. Their culinary journey ended with an impressive catering challenge. After an inspiring visit to the Central Markets to select Gewürzhaus spices, they prepared sweet and savoury dishes for a staff lunch, showcasing their global spice knowledge.
Our Year 10 students stepped up their food presentation game, culminating in a food truck challenge. They designed, developed, and served original food items to staff in a vibrant food truck event. While our Year 10 Café class mastered the coffee machine and hosted a successful café day, preparing both beverages and small bites.
Rotating through front and back-of-house roles, our Year 11 Café students elevated their skills through two full-service café days, serving up café-style dishes and drinks. Year 11 students became food critics with a tasting excursion to Peel and Leigh Streets. They also embraced the growing trend of meal kits, designing and packaging their own for staff to enjoy at home. Embracing community connections, they catered for St David’s Parish School’s Native Morning Tea for National Reconciliation Week with creative recipes, featuring native ingredients, that were a hit!

Across the term, during RISE, our Year 9 students have embarked on an entrepreneurial journey centred around the question: Pitch an innovative, scalable, and sustainable business idea that makes the world a better place. Students took to this opportunity with innovative, creative and problem-solving minds to create exceptional products, programs and resources that transfer to real world problems.
The RISE Winter Showcase was a fantastic opportunity for students to present and display their incredible work as part of the Future Anything program.
Students were well prepared and spoke confidently when presenting their pitch. We were delighted to see so many of our families and staff attend to view and appreciate the amazing work students had prepared. We were also fortunate to have Future Anything guest Tom Pennington join us for the afternoon, adding further excitement to the event.
